Temperatures Sunday will fall from the 50s and 60s at daybreak into the 20s and 30s by afternoon. The northern half of the state should be below freezing by 2-3 p.m. Sunday. Icy travel is possible over the northern half of the state late Sunday, Sunday night, and into the day Monday.
Patchy black ice could develop in parts of Alabama overnight into Monday morning, with the greatest risk on bridges, overpasses and shaded roadways where moisture lingers. With lows projected to plummet quickly into the teens, any leftover moisture on the roads will freeze leading to black ice and slick spots on the roads.
Lows tonight into Tuesday morning will be very cold, with temperatures in the teens possible in north Alabama and the 20s all the way into south Alabama: Wednesday could bring some rain, and it could last into Thursday morning. Right now the weather service isn’t expecting it to be cold enough for snow.
